Abstract
The Mexican Coral Reef Conference is the most important scientific meeting on these marine ecosystems in the country, and it has been held thirteen times, from 2000 to the most recent in October 2025. Men's participation in the research was dominant until the last two conferences, when the trend shifted, and now there is an equal or greater number of women conducting the studies presented at the meetings. Previously, the ratio was even higher than 2, but it has dropped as low as 0.9, where a value of 1 implies parity in the representation of both genders. The presence of women has allowed for the diversification of research lines and approaches, as well as the strengthening of collaborative networks at the national and international levels. The Mexican Coral Reefs Society, and each Mexican Coral Reef Conference, held alternately on the Pacific and Atlantic coasts of Mexico every two years, are fundamental to advancing the understanding, management, and conservation of Mexico's coral reefs.
